Forestry Consultant
We are looking for a forestry consultant to work alongside the existing team in the Savills South region.
Role & team overview
With over 30 consultants working across nine offices, Savills can claim one of the UK's largest in-house forestry management teams. Savills Forestry provides advice on any aspect of commercial forestry and woodland management, covering property assets of any scale, from large investment portfolios to small farm and estate woodlands. The team has a deep knowledge base and can provide a clearly defined long-term career structure and excellent training opportunities for the right person. We work closely with clients to provide a broad spectrum of sector-specific services, covering investment, sales and purchases, valuation, management and business consultancy. Our clients include rural estates, farmers, public bodies and commercial forestry investors.
We are looking for a junior forestry consultant to work alongside the expanding Forestry and Arboriculture team in the Central/South region. The successful candidate will be based out of our Cirencester office but must be able to work flexibly. The areas covered by the role include Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Herefordshire. The role will consist of ensuring that work is implemented to a high standard and in a timely fashion and assisting the current team in delivering financial targets for the region and a wide range of woodland and forestry projects. Day-to-day tasks will comprise forest management on various properties, including applying for grants, drafting management plans, overseeing contractors and delivery of forestry work, contract organisation and supervision, and liaison with agencies, clients and their staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the team and developing your client relationships.
- Providing forestry and woodland management advice, including:
- Management planning.
- Grant Scheme applications and management of grant-related works.
- Timber harvesting and marketing restocking and maintenance.
- Planning and implementation of new woodland creation.
- Forestry and woodland mapping and data management via GIS.
- Forest and woodland certification.
- Tree condition surveys.
- Implementation of tree remedial works.
- Budgeting and financial management.
- Carbon projects.
- Working with the Cirencester and central rural team, with responsibility for delivering the forestry strategy within the locality and driving the business forward.
- Support your team and line manager with good financial housekeeping, timesheet management and work invoicing.
- To help promote and deliver the firm’s compliance procedures and standards & consistently deliver high performance.

Technical experience
• Achieved or working towards BSc. or MSc. Forestry, or related.
• Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (or working towards).
• LANTRA Professional Tree Inspector (advantageous).
• Highly competent and skilled with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel; training will be provided in respect of internal systems.
• GIS proficient.
• Clear written and verbal communication style.
• Driving licence essential.
